MMA Projects signs the concept design for the ITA Pavilion – Italian Trade Agency – for the 2026 edition of Downtown Design Dubai, the Middle East's leading fair dedicated to contemporary design. Scheduled from 4 to 8 November at the Dubai Design District (d3), Downtown Design Dubai is the anchor event of Dubai Design Week.

In an exhibition landscape often saturated with visual clamor, the project for the ITA Pavilion at Dubai Design Week chooses the path of layered subtraction. “The Fabric of the Piazza” deliberately avoids a literal imitation of the Italian city, preferring to extract its spatial matrix and subsequently dematerialize it. The design eliminates the conventional division into commercial booths, transforming the area’s 410 square meters into a porous scenographic device governed by a refined interplay of perspectives, transparencies, and architectural memories.

The layout unfolds along a central spine that guides visitor flow through a rhythmic sequence of floating textile screens. Far from purely decorative intents, these veils feature subtle impressions of silhouettes depicting classic arches and mouldings, evoking the monumentality of historic architecture only to dissolve it in the lightness of grazing light brushing their base. This ethereal dimension enters into direct tension with the tectonic presence of the terrazzo and stone display podiums: monolithic volumes that anchor objects to the ground, turning every product into a piece of a sophisticated visual perspective. Passing through translucent pathways that evoke the texture of urban alleyways, the routes converge toward a central core stripped of any superstructure. The "piazza" is thus cleansed of any folkloric rhetoric to establish itself as a pure relational infrastructure: a neutral, flexible, and high-intensity gathering space where the eighteen featured companies intertwine their identities, opening Italian design to the international stage.
